The original section of Stratford General Hospital was built in 1948. Amazingly, many of the original, wood framed, single-glazed windows, now 75+ years old, remained and were large part of the building’s exterior wall system. The windows had long surpassed their expected lifespan, failing to meet the performance standards required for a modern healthcare facility.

  • Prototeck was engaged to review the window design specifications and conduct periodic site assessments during the window replacement program. Two separate contracts were issued for the window replacements.

St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital, constructed in the 1960s, faced similar issues. The original windows no longer met the performance standards necessary for today’s healthcare environments. Prototeck was tasked with overseeing the removal of the old windows and the installation of new ones, ensuring compliance with the design specifications.

Upon completion of the work across all three contracts, a thermographic scan of all of the windows was conducted on both the interior and exterior of the buildings. A detailed report was prepared that outlined the findings.

In total, the window replacement program involved over 200 windows, with approximately two-thirds of these replacements occurring in the hospital’s operating areas. Careful coordination and management were essential to ensure the window replacement work did not disrupt hospital operations.

With new windows installed, the performance of the exterior building envelope will be greatly improved.
