The Islamic Centre was originally constructed in 1994 to serve as a recreational and community facility for the local population. Over the years, the Centre has evolved into a highly valued and well-utilized community hub, supporting a wide range of social, cultural, and recreational activities. As community participation and demand increased, the existing facility reached its functional capacity, necessitating an expansion to better accommodate current and future users.

  • The proposed renovation and expansion significantly increase the overall size of the Islamic Centre and enhance its functionality. The upgraded facility is designed to provide a broader variety of spaces and amenities, improve accessibility, and support a greater number of users, while continuing to serve as an important gathering place for the community.

Prototeck Engineering Associates Inc. was retained by IE DESIGN to provide comprehensive civil engineering services for the project. Prototeck worked in close coordination with the project’s multidisciplinary design team to develop detailed site grading and servicing plans tailored to the proposed expansion.

The civil engineering scope included the design and implementation of erosion and sediment control measures to protect adjacent properties and municipal infrastructure during construction, as well as the relocation of the existing fire hydrant and associated water services to align with the revised site layout. In addition, Prototeck prepared the stormwater management design and accompanying report, with post-development conditions engineered to fully comply with approved Stormwater Management criteria and applicable municipal standards, ensuring no adverse impact on surrounding lands or infrastructure.

Construction commenced in 2025, and the renovated and expanded Islamic Centre is anticipated to open in early 2026. Upon completion, the upgraded facility will better serve the needs of the growing community while meeting modern engineering, environmental, and municipal requirements.
