The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Community Church, an iconic Byzantine-style building located at 131–133 Southdale Road West, has been a cornerstone of the community since its construction in 2001. Despite its relatively young age, the church has faced significant issues with brick deterioration, particularly affecting the rotunda tower.

  • Prototeck Engineering Associates Inc. was engaged to investigate areas of notable masonry deterioration and assess the overall condition of the structure. Due to the tower’s height and challenging access, a contractor used a manlift to conduct close-up inspections and remove deteriorated masonry samples for analysis. Through a detailed assessment, Prototeck identified that long-term exposure to moisture, coupled with potential construction or detailing flaws, had contributed to the accelerated brick deterioration. The investigation also highlighted possible water infiltration pathways that exacerbated the damage.

Following the findings, Prototeck developed a repair strategy to address the immediate structural concerns and prevent further water penetration. The proposed solution focused on restoring the integrity of the brick masonry, improving drainage around the rotunda, and enhancing the overall durability of the tower’s exterior.
